The Company

The Los Angeles based, Djanbazian Dance Company was formed in 1992 under the Direction of Artistic Director and Choreographer, Anna Djanbazian. It’s members are comprised of Djanbazian Dance Academy’s finest dancers, which are chosen every four years from the junior company; the current company being the third generation of DDC since 1992.

The repertoire includes a wide variety of genres, from classical Ballet and Modern, to Traditional Folk Stage dances from around the world, with specialties in Armenian, Persian and Russian Dances.

The mission of the Djanbazian Dance Company is to preserve and promote artistic heritage and cultural roots, to create pieces that are thought provoking and to present works that will speak to diverse audiences.

The choreographic works of the Company have been presented by: Gilmore International Festival, Amnesty International, UCLA Armand Hammer Museum, 2005 Institute for Educators at Music Center, Pomona California Polytechnic University, Long Beach CDEA Conference, Kaleidoscope, International Children’s Festival in Seattle & Tacoma, Washington and Celebration of Dance at Alex Theater.

The Company Toured Armenia in the summer of 2002, and competed in the Grand Prix Festival of Dance in Italy in the summer of 2005, receiving awards for Traditional Persian folk dance and Best Contemporary Modern Dance Choreography.

In 2004, the dazzling production of the full length ballet, Komitas, earned the Company eight Lester Horton Dance Award Nominations, four of which they won.
